Run by two artists - Abbie Mylod Galie of www.OriginalAbbie.com and AbbieRoad.etsy.com, and her mother in law - Pola Galie of www.WebmavenNJ.com and WebmavenNJ.etsy.com. The Handmade Faire is a completely home grown festival.
I learned early on that if you want something done right, you should do it yourself. So, instead of going to your run of the mill craft shows, sitting in a sea among flea market items, retail items, and corporate things like Discovery Toys, Tastefully Simple, etc, and wondering if there's anyone else that actually sells art or craft items - I decided to put a jump start on the movement and start my own.
Sure, there are a handful of 100% Handmade shows in NJ that are fantastic, but a lot of them are very expensive, and I simply have not gotten to the point where I can spend $300 on a craft show. $50, now that I can handle! So, rather than begin an endless search for a 100% Handmade show that I didn't have to stretch the budget for, I decided to do what any crafter has done before - and do it myself!

The first Handmade Faire, in April of 2008 was held in Waretown, NJ at the Natural Resource Education Foundation, a foundation where my mother in law is the caretaker of the land. All proceeds from this event went to benefit the foundation, a non profit that raises money for the Barnegat Bay & environmental education.

This event we are giving back to the art community. We don't have all our details ironed out yet, but we are in discussion with a local art gallery & studio about doing a scholarship program to be used to take some kind of art class semester at the studio. Nothing is set in stone yet, but we are contemplating working with our regional school district to help raise money for the Art program as well - which, though I was not in this school district when I attended High School, I know that the art programs almost always take the back burner to sports programs, and that they need all the funding they can get! More details of this will be posted in the blog as things are settled upon.
The first Handmade Faire was a fantastic success. We feel that we have no where to go but up! We try to pick locations that are unique, and different, and that are easily accessible for people. We have big plans for the future!

As an artist, I think I give the Handmade Faire a different approach than most art shows have. I know what I want when I go to an art show, I know what I don't like, what bugs me, what I wish was different - and I try my best to make those things happen smoothly. I love the art community, I love being surrounded by fabulous art and artists, encouraging the handmade life style for others. Buying Handmade is something that I try to do, and encourage others to do as well!

The Handmade Faire is a 100% Handmade Art and Fine Craft show. Promoted by Abbie Galie an artist, and her mother in law, Pola Galie a basketmaker. The July 2009 show will be our third, and largest Faire. It is important to us as artists to run a well promoted, organized, and all around fantastic show. All the artists and fine crafters that sell at our shows are juried for quality, uniqueness, and skill. We try hard to fill our shows with the most talented, unique, and one of a kind artists that we can. Some artists come from as far away as Maine and South Carolina - though a majority of our artists are from New Jersey - some even from our home town of Medford!
This is not your average art and craft show! Aside from our fantastic artists, the Handmade Faire will have tasty food vendors selling a variety of festival foods, as well as a great sampling of music all pulled from the 60's and 70's era in honor or our "Summer of Love" theme. We are bringing out the Hippy in everyone! Feel free to wear your tie dye and long skirts!
A tradition at the Handmade Faire is give-aways! We don't do the give-aways in a traditional manner though. We like to reward our shoppers, the ones who are spending their hand earned money with our Vendors! So - throughout the day, either Abbie, Pola, or one of our volunteers (or sometimes our vendors!) will hand out a token that is redeemable at our "Goodie Table" for a give-away! The give-aways are a mix of things from handmade goods, gift certificates, large and small prizes - it's a mix! You never know what you'll get! Prizes are given out at random, and are only available while supplies last!
